“Noli dedere te minantibus”
the Latin phrase in the center of the logo translates to Face the Threat.
This short phrase has a long English definition, which was taken (from the
words “Face” and “Threat”) straight out of Webster’s dictionary. It is
fitting of our jobs as tactical officers. Face the Threat means, “To oppose
with boldness or confidence the source of impending danger or evil.”
The drawing of the unknown operator featured in the right foreground of the
State of Alabama is a representation of the protection provided by tactical
officers. The operator is facing the threat and representing all of the
members and agencies in the ATOA. The state colors displayed behind the
operator represent the statewide unity of the ATOA.
|
The black
background represents the opposition to the good that the state and its
colors represent. The unknown operator’s gray coloring is representative of
the stealth and concealment necessary in tactical operations. Gold depicts
honor and righteousness. The red is a reminder of the officers lost in the
line of duty and symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice they have made.
The ATOA logo was designed by Deputy Jason Myrick, Shelby County Sheriff's
Office.
